Frequently Asked Lift-Gate Questions:
Many of our outdoor pizza ovens, kitchen island kits, and outdoor kitchen components are heavy and require special consideration for delivery. When placing an order, it’s important to determine whether you'll need a lift gate for delivery to your residence or business. Below are answers to our most frequently asked lift gate questions to help you make an informed decision.
How will my order be delivered?
Freight is used for shipments over 120 lbs or oversized items. The standard delivery method is typically “curb-side delivery,” which is used for all freight shipments unless otherwise arranged.
We will schedule a delivery date for you, and the delivery company will call you a day or two ahead to confirm the timeframe. Your delivery will arrive via a full-size semi-truck, ranging from 20 to 53 feet in length. It won’t be a box truck like UPS or FedEx. Please assume it will be a long truck, as we cannot request specific truck sizes. The driver is only required to deliver curbside, meaning it will be your responsibility to move the item from there.
While some drivers may be willing to help beyond curbside, it’s entirely at their discretion and not required. If the truck lacks a lift gate, you’ll be responsible for removing the item from the truck.
What do I need to know about my delivery?
- Home Presence: If your product ships via LTL Freight, someone must be home at the time of delivery.
- Curbside Responsibility: You are responsible for moving the item from the curb to your desired location. Customers often use tools like engine hoists, forklifts, or cranes to transport heavy items.
- Appointment Scheduling: The freight carrier will call in advance to schedule a delivery appointment. Be sure to provide a phone number where you can be easily reached.
What is a Lift-Gate?
A lift-gate is a hydraulic lift used to raise and lower items between ground level and the truck’s trailer. Most freight trucks are designed for deliveries at loading docks or with forklifts, so a lift-gate is necessary if you don’t have access to this equipment and the item is too heavy to handle manually.
Do I need lift-gate delivery?
If the items in your shipment are light enough to unload by hand, you don’t need a lift-gate. However, if any item weighs more than 120 lbs and you live in a residential area, you will likely need one.
You won’t need a lift-gate if your delivery location has a loading dock or forklift. You can also avoid it by picking up the freight directly from the terminal.
It’s important to note that freight companies often expect residential customers to pay for lift-gate service. If you’re unable to unload the freight from the truck, a re-delivery fee may apply, in addition to the cost of the lift-gate service.
Note: In some regions, freight companies require lift-gate delivery for liability reasons.
Is lift-gate delivery always available?
Not always. Lift-gate availability varies by carrier and truck type. It’s crucial to notify us in advance if you need lift-gate delivery, as most trucks are not equipped with one.
How much does lift-gate delivery cost?
The freight company charges $95.00 for lift-gate service. The good news? We’ll schedule it for you! Just let us know if you need it.
